DTU (Data Transfer Unit) is a common IoT communication terminal product that functions as a gateway. It connects various sensors, controllers, actuators, etc. through serial ports or wireless technology on one side, and connects to the Internet through WiFi, Ethernet, 2G/3G/4G/5G, NB-IoT, and other methods to access cloud services on the other side.
DTU is a ready-to-use product that can be used in conjunction with many sensor products without requiring hardware development capabilities, making it as simple as configuring a home broadband router.
DTU is widely used in scenarios where sensor data collection and remote control are required. A considerable number of users of the MODBUS IoT platform use DTU access devices. Typically, DTU is mostly used to connect Modbus slave devices through RS485/232/422 ports, such as switch relays, temperature and humidity sensors, various gas sensors, electric energy meters, water meters, PLCs, motor controllers, etc. Additionally, LoRa DTU is also commonly used in scenarios requiring wide coverage, low power consumption, and wireless transmission. The relationship between DTU and sub-devices connected to the MODBUS IoT platform is usually as follows:
If your IoT project does not use DTU but instead develops single-sided or embedded hardware products, connecting to the MODBUS IoT platform is also fully applicable. For details, please visit Device Access.
