Three Operating Modes Detailed

The AiGW600G supports three operating modes, users can flexibly select according to field requirements:

Mode 1: Intelligent Modbus Switch Mode (Multi-Master Mode)

This is the core function mode of AiGW600G, using intelligent Modbus switch technology to achieve simultaneous access to multiple slave buses by multiple hosts.

Connection method:

  • Fiber ports (F1/F2): Connect to host, connect remote host via fiber network
  • LAN1/LAN2 ports: Connect to host, uses Modbus TCP protocol
  • Ports 1, 2, 3, 4, 5: Connect to slave devices (such as flow meters, energy meters, PLCs, etc.)
  • Port 6: Connect to Modbus host (such as touch screen, PLC, configuration software, etc.)

Modbus address table allocation:

  • 1-Serial port 1, current range 1 to 10
  • 2-Serial port 2, current range 11 to 20
  • 3-Serial port 3, current range 21 to 30
  • 4-Serial port 4, current range 31 to 40
  • 5-Serial port 5, current range 41 to 50
  • X-Exit

Working principle: Ports 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 connect to slaves, and each port is assigned a Modbus address table. All 5 buses use concurrent polling and support multi-master simultaneous read/write. The gateway automatically routes host requests to the corresponding slave bus based on the Modbus address table, achieving real-time performance no less than direct connection. Supports fiber hosts and Ethernet hosts to simultaneously access slave data.

Mode 2: Transparent Transmission Mode (All RS485 Ports Connect to Slaves)

In transparent mode, all 6 RS485 serial ports connect to slave devices, each serial port independently maps to a TCP/IP port,实现 transparent transmission of serial data to fiber/Ethernet, regardless of communication protocol.

TCP/IP port mapping:

  • TCP/IP port 6020: Corresponds to RS485 port 1
  • TCP/IP port 6021: Corresponds to RS485 port 2
  • TCP/IP port 6022: Corresponds to RS485 port 3
  • TCP/IP port 6023: Corresponds to RS485 port 4
  • TCP/IP port 6024: Corresponds to RS485 port 5
  • TCP/IP port 6025: Corresponds to RS485 port 6

Connection method: All RS485 ports connect to slaves, fiber and LAN ports connect to hosts. In transparent mode, any communication protocol can be transparently transmitted via fiber or Ethernet, suitable for networking devices with non-standard protocols and long-distance communication.

Mode 3: Multi-Master Sharing Mode (1 Slave + 5 Hosts)

In this mode, 1 RS485 channel connects to slave, the remaining 5 RS485 channels connect to hosts, enabling multiple Modbus hosts to simultaneously share data from one slave bus.

Connection method:

  • Fiber, LAN ports: Connect to host via fiber or Ethernet
  • Port 1: Connect to slave (Modbus RTU device)
  • Ports 2, 3, 4, 5, 6: Connect to Modbus hosts (such as PLC, HMI touch screen, configuration software, etc.)

Working principle: The gateway caches slave data and distributes it to each host,实现 multi-master simultaneous read/write without bus conflicts. Supports fiber hosts, Ethernet hosts, and RS485 hosts to simultaneously access the same slave data.

Fiber Optic Cascading Networking

The AiGW600G's fiber ports support daisy-chain cascading and can self-organize fiber networks, especially suitable for long-distance, multi-point industrial field applications:

  • Cascading method: The first device's F1 Tx connects to the second device's F1 Rx, the first device's F1 Rx connects to the second device's F1 Tx,串联 in sequence
  • To next device: Each device's F2 port can connect to the next device, forming a fiber ring or chain network
  • Communication advantages: Fiber communication has strong anti-electromagnetic interference capability and long communication distance, suitable for substations, water plants, mines and other complex electromagnetic environments
  • Network topology: Supports chain, star, ring and other fiber network topologies
